The Orchard is an independent music and video distribution, marketing, and sales company that works with independent artists, labels, and other content providers to distribute content to hundreds of digital and mobile outlets around the world, as well as physical retailers in North America and Europe. The company was founded in 1997 by multi-platinum producer Richard Gottehrer [1] and distinguished music manager Scott Cohen [2] to foster independence and creativity in the music industry.
Its clients include independent artists and labels such as Daptone Records, Cleopatra, Barsuk Records, Frenchkiss Records, Nuclear Blast, Tee Pee Records, and more. Artists include Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, Royce da 5'9", The Raveonettes, and more; and individual deals with Boyz II Men, Simply Red and Rhett Miller. Additionally, The Orchard distributes the music of Sesame Street Workshop and Smithsonian Folkways.
The company also licenses music for use in television, film and advertising. Examples include: Heineken, Target and Macy’s, True Blood, Dexter and Gossip Girl as well as film soundtracks for X-Men: First Class, The Help and The Wrestler.
The Orchard bought TVT Records [3] in a bidding war over the bankrupt label. Most recently, the company has announced a distribution partnership with Amie Street and Wynton Marsalis.
The company has offices in New York, London, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, and other countries around the world, amounting to operations in more than 20 markets globally.
